It all really began when two young girls got stuck in a lift during the Falun Folk Festival in 1995. Three folk singers happened to be standing outside and to keep up the morale of the trapped girls, they treated them to an unusual and intimate musical performance. Sweet music was made and this, and the desire to deepen and renew traditional vocal folk music, eventually resulted in the formation of the group Envisa.
The group consists of three singers with different musical backgrounds who come together in folk music. With the voice their only instrument, they give folk singing a new look and stretch the limits of what you can do within vocal folk music.
Envisa uphold the tradition and have one foot rooted in it, but they are also of their own times, willingly succumbing to present influences, and strive for the unpredictable in their break-neck improvisations. The "Flod" CD reflects the musical breadth of Envisa. The repertoire takes in everything from pastoral choral melodies to heady dance rhythms, all with the same characteristic Envisa stamp on it. |
